Feeling the Funk

I don't know if it's just because it's Friday, or if I'm getting sick, or something else, but I'm feeling the funk.  And not the good kind of funk, either.  I've wanted to eat crappy all day, I'm tired, and extremely moody (who, me?)  Dustin got a little bit of it this morning and I cried on the way to work.  Thankfully I have to drive half an hour to get there, so they were dried up by the time I showed up.  What is wrong with me?  I know I need to get into the gym tonight but I just feel down.  Down would be the best word to describe it.  So, once again we'll see if I actually make it to the gym.

And I'm sorry for writing such a downer post today.  Wow I'm a fun person to be around.  It's just one of those days though, and I'm sure tomorrow will be much better.  Maybe even tonight.  And it better be good by tomorrow because I'm going WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING!  Yay!  That cheered me up a bit!

This is definitely newsworthy...

I officially have 6 Followers!!!!  Holy crap, how did that happen?!?!  Not that I'm complaining...I am truly jealous of those that have hundreds of followers.  It means that people are actually listening to what they have to say.  So now, I have 6 peeps that are potentially listening to my story, as boring as it may be.  Thanks!

In other news, I logged 3 miles on the treadmill last night and got an upper body strength workout in.  I did the strength workout first, which might have been a mistake, because by the time I got on the treadmill my motivation was gone.  Completely gone. Vanished.

So while my arms were barely working after lifting, I got on the treadmill.  I walked a lap, and then thought, "I might just not do this tonight."  Really?  My goodness, it's not like I had to go 10 miles or anything.  All I wanted to do was 3 miles, not that hard.  It took all of my willpower to continue, but I did it.  I had to read my Runner's World magazine and walk the last half mile, but I made it.

This tells me a little about myself.  On any given day in the "past", I would have just got off and went home.  I would have felt guilty and then I would have binged because I felt guilty for not working out.  Not last night!  I finished those miles and then picked up Subway for me and Dustin.  I ate healthy and didn't even have ice cream for dessert (only because we didn't get home until after 9...I probably would have had it if I was home).  I think I should get an 'A' for yesterday!

Not sure if I'm going to work out tonight.  I should, especially because Dustin won't be there for me to come home to, so I should just suck it up and get some more miles in.  But then again, I'm kind of tired and not might not do it.  If I don't, my eating will still be on track though.  I'll think about it...

Weign-In Wednesday & Goals

And now what you've all been waiting for...

Weigh-In Wednesday!

Ok so maybe I'm the only person that tries not to step on the scale from Thursday through Tuesday, and really the only person that actually cares how much I weigh.  However, it motivates me when I think that someone out there reads my blog and wonders just how much, if any, weight Caitlin has lost for the week.

This week I'm happy to report that the scale said............163!

I'm down another pound!  13 more to go!

I'm pretty thrilled, considering that I had kind of a crappy weekend in the eating department.  But I've been working out hard and eating well *most* days, and it has apparently paid off!

With Weigh-In Wednesday, I'm also going to start posting my weekly goals.  It's just easier to do both at the same time instead of different days.  So here goes:
  1. I've got 9 more miles to do by Sunday for my January Miles Challenge.  Then begins February Fitness Challenge (I'll explain in a minute), which will also include 60 miles.  So by my calculations, I want to will get in at least 14 miles by the end of next Tuesday.
  2. Eat within my calorie range.  This might be a toughy (is that really a word?) considering that I'm going out of town this weekend.  However, here's the deal:  I track my calories on SparkPeople, which says I can have anywhere between 1500 and 1900 calories.  So the plan is to stay within that range.  While I'm still home, I'm going to stick closer to the 1500 mark and while I'm gone I just want to stay below the 1900 mark.
  3. I've been doing good in the cardio department, but my strength training is essentially nonexistent.  So with that, I will strength train at least twice a week.  This will mean doing both upper and lower body in one session, so that I will get at least two workouts each week for both.  I need to hold myself accountable!
That is pretty simple, even though I wrote a book on each goal.  It's just 3 little (big) goals and I will accomplish them!

As I mentioned above, I'm switching my monthly challenge to the February Fitness Challenge.  January was all about the miles, and February will be too.  But, in accordance to goal number 3, I will include strength training and plyos into the mix.  I'm ready to get on top of it.  There are 3 less days in February, so I really need to stick to my workouts so I don't get behind in miles.  A good challenge!

Have a happy day!

Yet another giveaway!

Zoe over at Run Zoe Run is also having a giveaway for a Michael Kors Weekender Bag!  Check it out!

I'd like to say it's a giveaway of my own, but I'm not to that caliber yet (and I only have like 4 followers).

However, Tricia at Endurance Isn't Only Physical is having a giveaway for a Nathan's Hydration Belt!  Check it out and get your entries in! Contest runs through February 2!

Lunchtime Crunch!

2 miles down during lunch!  Kicking ass and taking names!

14 more miles!

So I took the weekend off...again...but I got back to it yesterday, cranking out 4.5 miles.  It felt great, and I'm glad I didn't try to overwork myself and do more.  I felt like I could, but I only have a few days left in January to finish my Miles Challenge, and I've got 14 more miles to go.  I'm going to try and get in at least 4 more tonight, maybe more depending on how I feel.  I'm trying to get it done, though, because I doubt I'll get much in this weekend considering I'm going to be out of town.  The good thing is that my hotel has a gym in it, so if I'm still not to my 60 mile mark, I can fit in a few miles there.

Oh, by the way, I did a 5k in 29:37...personal best for me!

Tomorrow following my weekly weigh-in, I'm going to be posting my weekly goals.  I've been trying to do this on Mondays, but I think I'll switch to Wednesday so I can be in line with my weigh-in and adjust my goals to fit it.

That's all for now.  Here's a pic of my puppy...she's my baby, and if she is any indication of how I will treat my future children, they will be VERY well fed and spoiled rotten!

Have a great day!

Delicious Brownies!

Ok, so apparently since I finally worked out last night and kicked my ass, I find it ok to eat 3 brownies at work today.  Not just one moment of weakness, but three.  Good job, Caitlin.  I better get my ass into the gym tonight, no excuses!

6.5 miles last night!  I cranked them out on the treadmill, and although I am a little sore today, it was awesome!  I ran the first 4 miles without stopping, then walked for about a minute, and ran most the rest of the way (ok, it was intervals of walking and running).  I accomplished this all in 70 minutes, making for about an 11 min mile pace.  Not bad, and I can't wait until next week's long run to match that pace or make it better.

Ok, so I say long run as if I had it planned or something.  And yes, I did plan it yesterday, but only because I'm behind on my miles.  Not because I'm following a training plan or anything.  I need to get on that.  Flying blind is working for me at the moment, but sooner or later I need to get on a specific training plan so that I can 1. Avoid injury; 2. Let the experts tell me how I should be training instead of making it up.

After my run I went home and had a great dinner of lasagna (homemade from my mommy), salad, and oven-baked french fries.  I met my water goals for the day and stayed within my calories, even after consuming a rather large dinner.  Today I'm only planning about 3 miles because I need to recover from yesterday.

And did I mention.......TGIF!!!  Even though it was only a 4-day week, I'm so ready for the weekend to be here!  I don't have much planned, except for maybe a fun bonfire party because we have an old house on the property that needs to be burned down.  It's already down I guess, but its in a big ugly pile on the ground and needs to go away, especially before the WEDDING!  We're making such good progress on the place, making everything look great for the big day.  I'm so excited for spring/summer to get here so we can get some flowers planted and make the place look fantastic!

I'm such a gardening nerd.  We had our first garden last year, and even though this summer will be a busy one, I refuse to not have one this year.  We have a great space picked out so it can be bigger and better this time!  I was thinking about even trying to sell some stuff at the farmer's market this year, and I must learn to can with my grandma!  So exciting...

Have a Happy Friday!

Forget about yesterday....focus on today!

Thank God each day is a NEW day!  I ended the night so bad last night, and I was really worried that it would carry over into today, but so far so good.  I had an ok day yesterday, except for the fact that I skipped my workout and instead drank 2 beers (light at least) before dinner and then waited about 2 hours (or what seemed like an eternity) to have dinner, which ended up being pizza.  Needless to say, Dustin had a cranky bitch on his hands after that fiasco was over.  He is really starting to understand the importance of getting food in my belly in a timely manner, especially since he's seen the results of that not happening about 3 times in the last week.

Today is a new day!  I'm doing much better, and I have a looooooonnnnnnngggggg workout planned for tonight so I can make up some extra miles because I'm seriously behind.  Like I need to run 10 miles a day behind to catch up.  Ok, not that bad, but I've got to get my 60 miles in by January 29 because I'm heading out of town to shop for wedding dresses on Jan. 30, so there will probably be no running, except maybe from some bridezillas at David's Bridal.

I've been super on track with eating today, and for some reason unknown to me, I've only had breakfast and no snack and I'M NOT HUNGRY!  When does that ever happen?  Like maybe when I'm sleeping!

Also, in other breaking news, I signed up for SparkPeople yesterday.  I'm glad I did, because I need start tracking better, and its fun.  I have no idea what happens when I get SparkPoints, but I like seeing them add up, so more power to them!

Check back tomorrow morning and make sure I've added several miles to my post.  I'm going to get in a good one!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Stayed the same.  Not bad, considering that this weekend I didn't do the greatest and until last night I didn't get a workout in since last Thursday!  Not great though, considering I want to lose weight and at this rate its going to take me 10 years to hit my goal.  Get on it, Caitlin!!

Notice the lack of posting too...I'm just kind of in one of those moods where it seems like such a hassle to get one done.  It's not that hard, but I just don't have the motivation to do it.  I'll work on that.

So I got in 5 miles last night on the treadmill.  It was pretty brutal--not the running, but the fact that once again my tummy was giving me fits!  This time I think it was from something bad I might have eaten, because my stomach hurt all last night and still hurts this morning.  Could have been the Subway sandwich I consumed at lunch yesterday.  Who knows, but one thing I do know is that it is a good thing I am the only person at the gym when I work out.  People probably would have thought I was one gross person last night!

The Biggest Loser was pretty interesting last night.  I'm looking forward to reading your bloggies to see what kind of reaction everyone had to it.  I can't stand the lady on the red team, her husband worked his ass off and she is making excuses.  And that is why she won't do well in the process at the ranch, because she is all about playing the game.  I can't wait for next week!

Sick Day

Yesterday I took a sick day from work.  I have this eye thing that's been bugging me lately, and I woke up with it hurting and a little goopy (sp.?).  So I decided to call in sick.  After I did this a wave of guilt passed over me, because I knew full well that I would have been fine to go to work for the day.  I did a little bit of angel/devil thinking though, and came up with the conclusion that they didn't need me there anyway, and I hadn't taken any time off during Christmas and the rest of the holidays, so this was my mini vacation.

Despite the fact that my eye was bugging me, I got so much accomplished yesterday!  We have a LOT to do before the wedding, and because we are having the ceremony and reception pretty much right outside my door, we have a lot of projects to do!  I started the day cooking breakfast for Dustin and I, getting the laundry done, cleaning, and making two batches of cookies (not for me to eat, and one batch did NOT turn out!)  I made us a quick lunch, and after we set off outside to get some projects done.

We started by taking down a huge branch that was dead from a big tree in the barnyard (yes, I'm a country girl).  Once we got it down, we started a nice bonfire to get that cleaned up, along with all sorts of branches and crap that needed burning.  We started another pile on fire (BIG FLAME) and set off to take apart a lean-to that was in disrepair.  After moving what seemed like thousands of tires from the lean-to to another shed (I swear we should sell used tires on the internet...any takers?), we started ripping boards off of one side.

Everything was going fine and dandy until Dustin, trying to help me out, takes the crowbar and starts prying a board from the one I was currently working on.  Apparently he has been sneaking protein shakes behind my back, because he yanked the board off, making the one I was working on slam into my head, HARD.  After I figured out that I wasn't going to pass out a wave of tears started coming my way, but I held them in because Dustin looked like he was going to cry because he felt so bad.  So only a few leaked out, and I kept on working (at a distance) with a nice shiner and goose egg on the side of my face.  Lovely.

I forgot to post that Wednesday I went 5.5 miles.  Whoo hoo!  Last night (Thursday) I went to the gym (hiding, of course, from anyone that might be around from work) and did another 3.5 miles!  Yay!  I'm keeping up with my goals, which lets me know I'm doing good.  If I continue this path, I'll lose weight and become strong.  And, most importantly, I'll be able to run a half-marathon without dying.  All good things!

Happy Friday!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Down one pound!!!  While some people may not think this is cause for celebration, I think otherwise.  I could have taken a lower number, but this is the first time I've seen the scale budge in a number of weeks.  I didn't get a workout in last night either, so my last chance workout was definitely the 6 miles I did the day before.  Tonight I have about 5 miles planned, with at least 3 running and the rest can be walking.  I need to catch up on miles, and tonight is perfect because Dustin will be gone so I won't feel like I need to go home.  I was kind of feeling that way last night, which led to me not working out and having a *small* serving of peach cobbler.

I've been eating well, staying within target on calories, and I'm planning another loss this week.  I need to keep that scale moving, and the only way I'm going to do that is if I keep eating right and if I kick my ass at the gym.  So that is my goal for the rest of the week.  Kick my ass...

So I told myself I was going to sign up for my half-marathon today, and I just tried to on the internet...but I can't yet.  It says that the registration would begin by January 5, but the link isn't posted for that yet, so I'll just have to wait.  But I want everyone to know I had good intentions of doing it today!  I'm pretty pumped for it.  It's the first time that I've actually made the move to do one, even though it's something I've wanted for several years.  Now I just need to nail down my training schedule...on the to do list today!
I watched The Biggest Loser last night.  I have to say I was slightly disappointed.  Is it just me, or is this season majorly cheesy?  I guess I've never watched the beginning of any season until now, so maybe the cheese factor goes down after a few episodes, but it's pretty bad right now.  I know it's just an attempt to show the seriousness of their situations, but I think it is a little lame.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the show.  I'm not a fan of the red team, especially the lady.  I think she is in it solely for the money.  I love the white team, or rather Michael from the white team, and I hope to God he stays on the show for his health.

Have a great day!

6 Miles!

So just in case anyone has actually been looking at my blog and the little ticker I've got up for my Miles Challenge, you will notice that I jumped from 15 miles yesterday to 21 miles today...

I did 6 miles yesterday!!!

It was great.  After a weekend of nothing and feeling a little sick, I was ready to get into the gym and kick ass yesterday.  And ass I did kick, and it was awesome!  I did intervals of about 2-3 minutes of running to 1 minute of walking for 60 minutes, which got me to 5.75 miles, and then finished off with .25 mi of walking for a long cooldown.  The surprising thing is that I'm not incredibly sore or tired this morning, which makes me realize just how strong I am.

Today I'm going to put in around 3 miles and call it good so I don't completely tire myself out for the rest of the week.  I have a weigh-in tomorrow, so tonight is kind of my "last chance workout".   I plan on getting in my miles and then doing ab and arm exercises, because my arms are fat and I don't want them to be for my wedding.  I'm looking at ways to incorporate more strength training in because it will make me faster and stronger for my runs.

This makes me realize just how many ups and downs I'm going to have.  After this weekend I was feeling like crap about myself, and now I feel great!  I just need to take it all in and pick myself up when things are going downhill.  I'll have struggles, but there is always a way to get out of it if I try.  And try I will!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!  And The Biggest Loser is on tonight!! Woohoo!

Slacking and Sickness

I've been a total slacker for the last few days...since Friday to be exact.  I did great on Thursday, working out and logging my miles.  During my run, though, I had the same trouble I had the night before with my tummy.  This time it was more just cramping pains, but I pushed through and finished my workout.  Friday, my tummy was upset all day, and so instead of working out I went home to mope on the couch.  Saturday I woke up feeling a little bit better and went out and checked traps with Dustin and a friend.  I'm going to log half a mile for that even though I think it was a little more.  When we got home we worked on cleaning up the barn (big project) and then Dustin and I headed to pick up a load of cows from a town close by.  By the time we got back I was starving to the point where I was almost sick, and ate and went to bed!

Sunday I woke up feeling like shit.  My tummy hurt and I felt like I was getting a sore throat.  I was tired all day, and ended up taking a nap for about two hours in the middle of the day.  Dustin got home around six and said he felt like crap too, so we both sat like sickies on the couch and went to bed at 8.

What an eventful weekend!  Wowzers, I'm falling asleep just typing all that.  By the way, I did get a second wind yesterday for awhile and made a huge pot of homemade chicken noodle soup (just what the doctor ordered!).  While that was cooking I made a smaller version of peach cobbler, which I proceeded to eat with a fury last night.  I now feel the need to throw it out, because if I'm not careful I will eat the whole thing when I get home tonight.

I still don't feel 100% today but I'm going to get a workout in even if it kills me!  I'm slacking on my Miles Challenge, and I have a weigh-in on Wednesday that I would really like to see a loss at!  So I'll be kicking my ass again for a few days to see some results on the scale.  And then I will start the cycle all over again so I can see results next week.  And the next.  And the next.

On a good note, I found out when the Haulin' Aspen Half Marathon is because they finally updated their website!  The race is on Sunday, August 8, and as soon as I work out my budget for the next couple weeks, I'm going to sign up for it (it's only $35, but I have to be careful because of WEDDING).  I'm pumped that they finally updated the site so I can sign up for it.

And someone please hold me accountable for signing up for it within the next few weeks!

Now I just need to finalize a training program for it!  I've been doing some research on it and I've came up with a couple that I might modify for my personal taste.  If anyone has any suggestions about it, I would love to hear from you!

Goals for the week (January 11-17):
  1. Drink 120 ounces of water every day.
  2. Get all of my miles in (and catch up from last few days) for a total of at least 18 miles.
  3. Eat smart.  With all the miles I should be logging, make sure to eat enough, but not use it as an excuse to overeat!
  4. Work out budget so I can pay for my half-marathon.
  5. Finalize a half-marathon training program!

Tummy Troubles

I worked out last night, meaning to go a good 4 miles.  However, the upset tummy demon caught me again and I spent half of my workout time in the bathroom.  Yuck!  I really need to find out what is causing that.  I'd like to say it only happens every now and then, but to be honest its almost a daily occurence.  I don't think I'm allergic to anything, but I need to watch certain foods I eat.

This may sound weird, but I really don't mind when my belly is upset.  When it is cramping and hurts, yes I do, but when it is just rumbly and such, I don't mind it.  I think it is because I am just used to it.  It's pretty bad to say that I don't mind having the shits.  The only time that I really mind it is when I'm trying to get a good workout in.  I mean, I was so motivated to rock that treadmill last night, but grumbly tummy got in the way.

Needless to say I only got in 2.5 miles.  Not bad but I'm behind in my miles for the month.  Tonight I'm going to stick to it until I get in at least 4.5 miles of running/walking.  I have no fiance to go home to tonight, so I can spend all the time I want in the gym, working my ass off.  I'm so ready to see that scale go down, and I know that if I work hard enough this week, I'll be down at least a pound.  Keep it up!

I was reading Scale Junkie's post about planning out food.  It is completely true for me too!  I am the most successful in my health journey when I plan it out.  And come to think of it, I'm pretty much more successful in everything I do when I plan.  I should probably add that to my goals for the month.  Not only am I going to get in 60+ miles, I'm going to plan my meals each week.  I am proud of myself though, because while I'm in desperate need of going to the grocery store, I haven't made it yet this week.  Last night I was really wondering what I was going to make myself for dinner, and I could have gone an easy route and made mac-n-cheese or something gross like that, but I went healthy.

*And the lightbulb went off just now as I was thinking about what I ate for dinner.  I had cantaloupe for dinner, as well as yesterday as a mid-morning snack.  My tummy was rumbly all day after that, and also rumbly all night.  Ding Ding Ding!!!!  Cantaloupe!  *Note to self:  Don't eat cantaloupe before a workout!!!

On another note, I'm proud of myself:  I took my vitamins last night and this morning!!!  I've been slacking lately, and I need to get my routine back for taking them twice a day!

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

I'm really trying hard to stay motivated, but I can already feel the self-doubt coming on.  How horrible is that?  I guess not really, because that is why most people stay at the same weight or gain weight.  Self-doubt is something that will never go away, no matter how hard you try to overcome it.  And that is the secret to keeping those feelings at bay.  TRYING.  Working hard to combat those feelings.  It's a life process, one that is neverending and tiresome.  I'm sure I'll give in many more times in my life, but it's up to me to bounce back from that self-doubt and become self-confidant and know that this journey (life journey) is worth my time.

And hello!!  I've got a freakin' wedding to keep me motivated!!!  Only 24 more days until I start trying on dresses, so get with it Caitlin!!!  That is enough time to get a good base in for my weight loss and fitness, and enough time to tone up and look decent in a dress!  I've got one week to get that damn scale down to 163.  I can do it, damn it!

*And there you have the inner workings of my mind.  Do I maybe sound a little like Jillian?  Not quite, but I like to think I do.  I wish she was in my mind telling me what to do.

So tonight it's back to the gym, working on my fitness, working on my January Miles Challenge.  Not making excuses and going home instead!  (By the way, that is what happened to me last night, but it was a great night of rest!)  Getting in a good 4 miles to catch up (because its about a 2 mile a day challenge).  Getting in some ab work.  Pushing myself because I CAN!

And after that gym session, I'm going to the store to get healthy stuff to make dinner and getting home so I can finish watching The Biggest Loser.  I had to start it late last night because someone wanted to watch the Orange Bowl instead.  So then I got tired and we went to bed.  And even though I already know who gets voted off, I love watching their stories!  So motivating!

And that's all for now folks!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Just a quickie for the moment...

I was going to put 164 but that would be lying and cheating.  You see, I don't have a digital scale, so I can't put the exact number down.  There are no .3 pound losses when it comes to my weight loss.  So when the scale does not definitively say 164, I cannot put 164 down.  It was close, but not quite there, so I'm sticking with 165.  Maybe next week it will be 163 instead.  I just need to get my ass in gear.  More to follow later.

Biggest Loser!

Oh and by the way, I'm so excited for the Biggest Loser premiere tonight!!!  And this season I vow to not eat bad foods while watching it.  Maybe I'll do some sit ups or push ups or something!

4 more down...52 more miles to go!

I did another 4 miles yesterday, and I feel great about it.  If I kept that up, I'd have my 60 miles done in no time.  However, if I did keep that up, I'd probably find an excuse to not exercise starting at about day 10.  So, today I'm only going to get two miles in with some weight training.  That way I'll still be on track but I won't be killing myself to get the miles in.  Don't get me wrong, I love pushing myself, especially when I have a specific goal to work for.  I just want to make this a lasting change, so pushing myself too hard every day isn't a good idea.

I cheated this morning.  I got on the scale a day early.  I told myself I was going to only weigh in once a week, but I was just so damn curious that I stepped on.  Good things are happening!!  I'm down a pound this morning, so hopefully tomorrow morning when I have my real weigh in it will reflect the same.  It's been quite awhile since I've lost any weight, so getting off of the 165 bandwagon will be a great thing!!

Eating has been good, and I am bound and determined to lose before I go try on wedding dresses on the 30th.  So not only do I have a New Year to motivate me, but also a tight fitting dress to get my ass in gear.  Maybe I will go another 4 miles today...

2009 Recap and Weekend Results

Happy New Year!  Let's kick our 2010 into gear and have a  fulfilling and awesome year!  I've got several things on my plate this year, including my wedding (YEAH!).  I've got a lot to prepare for, and a lot to be thankful for!

2009 Recap:

  • February - Traveled to Australia with my good friend Liz.  Had a fantastic time, and now I'm wishing I could go back and do it all over again!
  • May-August - Worked in fire again, and semi-loved it, but was grateful to find a new venue
  • September - Started a detail into my current job
  • October - Moved in with Dustin (MY FIANCE!)
  • December - Finally found out that I got my job!  Permanent, full-time.  Benefits!  Yay!
  • December - Got engaged!  Dustin proposed on Christmas morning!  It was perfect!
  • Lost 5 pounds...not as much as I want, but a start
So, all in all, a pretty good year.  Some ups and downs, but mostly ups.  And good ups at that.  Wow, my writing skills are great today!  Sorry about that.

New Year's Eve was pretty fun, although I feel like an old fart, because as soon as the clock struck midnight, Dustin and I were pretty much passed out and ready for bed!  I think booze had a little bit to do with it, though.  I didn't exactly eat well that night and I consumed quite a few tasty adult beverages, but it was fun!

New Year's Day was considerably uneventful.  In fact, we pretty much laid in bed all day, watching football and napping.  The good thing was that I didn't eat much; the bad was that what I did eat wasn't that great for me and I did not hydrate myself well from the night before.  Bad Caitlin!

Saturday was a different story!  We were having my parents (and his) over for dinner that night, so we frantically cleaned the house all day long!  It is amazing how our cleaning habits seem to work that way.  I love having a clean house but I don't take the time to do it very often, resulting in piles of crap everywhere.  But when you say someone is coming over, it is balls to the wall (excuse the expression) cleaning time, and I get a clean house as a result.  The only exception to this is that damn spare bedroom that you can hardly walk into because of the clutter.  I need to get on that goal of getting it organized!

Yesterday Dustin, a friend of ours, and I went and cut firewood all day long!  We have some juniper trees on our property that his dad had previously knocked down with the cat, and all of this good firewood has been brewing as a result.  So we packed up the chainsaws (yes, I can run a chainsaw, which is something I'm extremely proud of) and headed out to cut.  It was a great day with perfect weather; it felt like April, not the first of January.  I also got a great workout in, as I discovered that running the saw is a great core workout!  My abs are sore today, as well as my forearms.

After we finished that project, we checked some traps of ours and went home and SHOWERED.  I was in desperate need of one after how much sweat poured out when cutting firewood.  Now here comes the best part of the day:

Even though I got a great workout in all day, I still went to the gym!!!!!!  Needless to say, I'm pretty excited and proud of my decision!  Most days, I would have called it good after cutting, but yesterday I knew that I wanted to get a good run in.  Maybe it is the New Year resolution motivation coming out, but I think there was something more to it, like maybe my mind and my body are answering to the same voice in my head that says I want to be fit and lose weight!  Non-scale victory right there!

Speaking of the scale, my next weigh-in is Wednesday.  I'm pretty excited about it to be honest.  Not sure if the scale is going to budge, but I know it won't go up, and I'm in the process of making it go down.  Just keep swimming, as Dori would say.

By the way, I'm 4 miles down on my 60 Mile January Challenge.  56 to go!
